Ron
Sahatjian is VP of the Strategic Technology
Programs at Boston Scientific Corporation.
In 1991 he started
the
Corporate Technology division. This became the Corporate
R&D center for the company. During that time he started the
company’s drug delivery program with the invention of the hydrogel coated drug eluting balloon and porous drug delivery
Channel™ balloon.
In 1998 he started Boston Scientific's Less Invasive Neurosurgery R&D group.
This group is credited with numerous product launches and primary
IP positions in aneurysmal and stroke therapies.
In 2000 he was awarded the first John Abele Science and
Technology Award for research or discovery of an enabling
technology that has become a platform for significant future
commercial impact for Boston Scientific.
One
example of this is the BSC Peripheral Vascular balloon catheter product
line, starting with the development and launch of the Ultrathin™
balloon.
In 2005 he founded
Medi-Solve Associates, an association of scientists from surface
coatings, extrusion, molding and polymer chemistry.
He has numerous publications and over 50 patents in medical
devices, primarily in balloon materials and drug delivery
systems.
